Day 9- Colorado Trail

Day 9- 8/24/18, 13.5mi, 3200ft elevation

Seasonal Stream at mi 111ish, to Guller Creek Headwaters 124.5

The Ten Mile Range

Most thankful for …. sunshine today, I slept very cold last night so I literally slept in my fleece tights and top, rain pants, down jacket and rain jacket. It was still chilled. I was warm enough to sleep some but not a lot. So I just got up this morning in all of that clothing, packed and started hiking. It took about .75 mi and 500 ft elevation to warm me up. Then I ate breakfast! In a small spot of sun right at treeline!

I saw God today….. the view off the 10 mi range is amazing so I really enjoyed that. You can see so far! Where you came from and where you are going! Look down one side and see Breckenridge and look off the other and there is Copper Mt and the road south to Leadville.

What I ate for supper… three sisters stew with a dollop of olive oil. It was good. I am kind of hungry now at 8 as I write this.

Quote of the day…. “So why didn’t you stop at Copper Mt at the restaurant?” – Aron. Good question Aron, we weren’t thinking lol! He had hamburger and salad and we had Tuna and trail mix. We aren’t true thru hikers yet passing an opportunity like that up only a couple hundreds yards off trail.

What I learned today…that it’s nice to sit in the sun at times. Given the opportunity it was fun to take a few breaks and stop early to enjoy a really beautiful valley and creek. I wrote and looked at maps in the sun to the point where, dare I say it, I got hot

Most favorite part of the day…relaxing this afternoon below Searl Pass along side Guller Creek.

Least favorite part of the day…waking up cold and anxious in the dark and just packing to climb to 12,400 in a strong cold wind.

Elevation Profile Monster…started at 11,110 up to 12,400, down to 9,900 back up to 11,000. With lots of little ups and downs in between.

Most useful gear of the day…brain. Stay relaxed and just try to enjoy the ride!

Food of the day…trail mix with peanuts and peanut butter M&M’s
