Colorado Trail, Sep 15, 2014 – Day 15

Yeah! Rest day ;). We slept in and then Cristin went and got breakfast stuff and she cooked pancakes for us in the cabin! Trail mix and peanut butter M&M pancakes. They were wonderful! We also had some eggs with the pancakes. Then we hurried to get checked out and re-arranged into other pick-ups. After being on the trail hiking for two weeks I am ready for a change of pace so Heather and I are going to do some day hiking around the Sangre De Cristos in the Westcliff area. I have not ever really hiked there and they are some of the closer mountains to where I live. So it makes sense to get to know them a little bit. Plus that area is one of the more beautiful in CO I think.
So after packing up we went into Buena Vista for maps, lunch, and laundry. We went to the Trailhead in BV for maps and I found one of the Sangres on both the Wet Mt Valley and San Louis Valley Side. Then we got lunch at Subway and headed to the laundry mat so I could wash clothes. Casey had to go home so he took his lunch and left and I started laundry…..they were out of laundry soap so I ended up being fortunate enough to borrow some from a guy that was there doing his since I only needed enough for one load.

Then we stopped at the Sinclair station in the middle of town to try out some of them 189 flavored of pop. I love that place. It is so much fun. My fav gas station in town. Then it was back to Mt.Princeton Hot Springs to soak until we didn’t want to any more that day since our overnight stay allowed us soaking privileges the day we checked in and the day we checked out. We took full advantage and left around 8 to hunt up supper in Salida at ‘The Fritz’ downtown. Talk about good and unique food! What a fun place! Monday night football was on so it was pretty busy but the owner and chef took our order and we had bacon wrapped Gorgonzola dates, some sort of mushroom ravioli with Parmesan cheese, a chili relleno with about three different cheeses, a salad and a BBQ salad sandwich. They were all small plates so we shared them all. It was a fun dinner. Then we stayed at the Mountain Motel on the east end of town. What a cute place! Lots of atmosphere and super comfy and really cute rooms. Great with pets too. Good thing as we had three: Chelly, Oakley, and Kemba. We cared well with three dogs and I was soon asleep. I think all that hiking must have made me really tired as all I have wanted to do for the past two days is sleep!
