Colorado Trail Sep 8, 2014- Day 8

Cristin and I traveled 12.5 miles today we got a leisurely start at 10:30. We were tired after the day yesterday. So we didn’t do Mt. Elbert but decided we would come back someday. The trail was much flatter than it has been the past week today kind of a nice change we just contoured around the mountains traveling south. We got to walk through some Aspens today that we’re changing. Was beautiful as it made the light golden around you. The sky was cloudy all day so it was nice that e didn’t get much rain at all. We got to Twin Lakes and walked through an underground pass under Hwy 82 and then started the long walk around the lake. It is mostly sagebrush around the lake so we made good time and stopped at a little beach right on the lake to eat supper. The view was amazing from there looking west to the huge mountains. We are there and had to pack up before we were done because the rain moved in. So I ate my polenta and couscous with Salmon as I walked around the lake toward the forest again on the other side. We got to the next trailhead at about 6:15 and just walked a little ways down the trail to stop for the night. We set up the tent and went down to a little pond to get some water for the next morning. And the dogs relieved of their packs romped around the beach. I talked with mom and dad about the resupply tomorrow at Clear Creek Rd and that we only have about 9 miles. We are thinking to get up and get going earlier so that we can spend some time relaxing that afternoon and take showers in the RV. Looking forward to that!
