Day 1: 8/16/18 16.8mi, 2800ft
Waterton Canyon Trailhead to South Platte River mi 16.8
Most thankful for …. a hiking partner!! While we probably won’t hike together all day every day, we are planning on camping together and catching up with each other off and on through the day. AND! For friends that fed us an awesome breakfast and let us spend the night in their driveway 20 min from the Trailhead. AND that Casey drove me to the trailhead and dropped me off. That really meant a lot!
I saw God today….. when I came up to the look-off into the South Platte River and the view was amazing!
Verse of the day… well how about song- my God is a God of Angel Armies!
What I ate for supper… a ham and brussels stew I had cooked several weeks ago and dehydrated some of the leftover for this! It was great! Added some dehydrated chicken, zucchini, and cabbage.
Quote of the day….those last two miles downhill were a beast!
What I learned today…that I am going to take this trip 1/2 day at a time! That way I don’t get overwhelmed by the largeness of the miles, days etc. Until lunch, Until camp…
Most favorite part of the day…well to be really honest when I got to take off my too-heavy pack and lay down on the ground when I arrived around 4:30 to the place we decided to camp at! But the whole evening was great and soaking my feet in the river was pretty great too, and the trail was fun as well.
Least favorite part of the day…when my left calf started to cramp up a bit. Doing some stretching! My pack is WAY too heavy! It’s got to weigh close to 40lbs. That’s pretty frustrating considering how much I thought and worked on getting my pack weight down. I have a goal of 25. That’s a long ways from where I am now. I do have 7 days worth of food, but still…
Distance…16.5 mi to camp
Most useful gear of the day…Phone. To text, take Picts and to use the awesome CO Trail Gut Hooks app. We have found that we absolutely love the app. SO handy!
Food of the day…it was all good…it’s all gone!
