Day 7- Colorado Trail

Day 7: 8/22/18, 9 mi + Town Walking, 400ft elevation

High Ridge east of Breckenridge mi 95.4 to Breckenridge mi 104.4

So…..town….is….stressful!! So much running around and trying to work out bus schedules in a timely manner, we gave up around 6:00pm and took an Uber back to Breckenridge!!

We only got laundry, dr, and REI done. No showers until 10:30pm, no sleep until 11. I was so tired!! We still have to pack our backpacks, figure out what we are sending home, get food, repackage it, go to the post office and send all extras home, then catch multiple busses back to the Trailhead and hike in 5-6 mikes and about 2000 feet elevation. I prefer non town days. Get up, eat and hike.

Most thankful for ….town day!!!! And rain clothing, and a warm bag! Michaela’s knee report. New gear and an understanding and supporting husband!!

I saw God today….. the morning was GORGEOUS although chilly and wet. We slept above the clouds and then hiked down through them to town. Michaela’s dr visit also was a God Send. The dr got her in on the spur of the moment, gave her a cortisone shot and didn’t charger b/c she was a nurse. Amazing!

What I ate for supper… Giams pizza!!!

Quote of the day…. check in isn’t until 4:00pm. We got to town at 10:45, and Michaela had a dr appt for her knee at 3. We were serious dirty and yeah, maybe a bit smelly! So after finding our lodging we left for the next 10 hours lugging our packs across Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorn and finally Dillon and back to Breckenridge.

What I learned today… God is AMAZING!!! Michaela’s dr appt was informative and she learned its tension in her IT band causing the knee pain got a cortisone shot and she is still hiking!!! Yay- thank you Lord. On top of all that the dr comped her bill b/c she is s nurse.

Most favorite part of the day…finally making it to REI, then back to the hostel.

Least favorite part of the day…the bus rides all over to get to REI

Most useful gear of the day…my phone with the bus schedule apps on it.

Food of the day…pizza Giams in Breckenridge!! Pepperoni, mushrooms, and peperoccini peppers for me. It was really good!

Big news… I updated my backpack and got insoles for my shoes and several small items at REI to help lighten my load for the trail out. I dropped approx 3-4lbs I think! My new pack is an osprey and it fits me much better and carries the weight in the right places. So very excited about this!! It’s like a Cadillac compared to what I was carrying.

I am also trying out an ankle brace of Michaela’s for my left foot as it seems swollen in general and the brace may help with some arch support.
