Friends

Today was a great day! We started by hiking up over over Searl Pass and across the plateau above treeline over Elkhead Ridge to Kokomo Pass. On the way down from Kokomo Pass toward Camp Hale we met my friends from the CMC hiking up the mountain towards us. They hiked down with us and took us to their campsite where we spent the afternoon with at Camp Hale campground and they cooked us supper.

Fun Story…Eric, Kim and Gary met Betsi and Stephanie as they were headed in to meet up with us!! They ended up talking with them for like 1/2 hr! Betsi and Stephanie sent us a note letting us know where they are getting back on trail and when. So we are gonna see what we can do to get back in sync with them as they are lots of fun. Maybe, if we get really lucky we can hike the collegiate west with Michaela and I, Aron, and Betsi and Stephanie! That would be fun!

Most thankful for …. awesome friends that came to meet us on the trail!! Eric, Kim, Gary, and Tony all set up camp near Camp Hale then hiked in to meet us and brought us back to camp and fed us!! It was so fun! Can’t even describe how heartwarming it was to see them coming up the trail to me! Almost made me cry!

I saw God today….. the hike today was, in my mind, my favorite day of the trail so far. The valley up Guller Creek below Searl Pass and the the alpine walk between Searl and Kokomo Pass was just wonderful. It was so pretty. The walk down in the forest after that was also one of the prettiest forest walks we have done. Beautiful old pine trees and intermittent open space down a valley.

What I ate for supper…an amazing dinner of cubed beef and roasted veggies with a quinoa salad and this amazing bread like pudding dessert. All cooked by my amazing friends and chefs!! So cool!!

Quote of the day…. “Do you want a beer?” Why yes! Thank you! And it was cold!

What I learned today… that I am blessed with wonderful friends that took in three stinky hikers and fed them! I mean really how cool is that!

Most favorite part of the day… hard to say today as this was probably my favorite day in the trail with the beautiful hike and meeting up with friends.

Least favorite part of the day… having to go to bed b/c I know I need to get up early!

Most useful gear of the day… trekking poles- there was a lot of steep downhill today

Song of the day…10,000 Reasons was going through my head all day.
